Fortnite game has continued its successful run for the second consecutive year and it earned a whopping revenue of $1.8 billion in the year 2019. According to the reports of Super Data Research, it stood at the top spot and no other game managed to reach close to it. Although the revenue is less in comparison to the first year, still it has managed to top the charts for 2019.
The video gaming industry saw an increment of 3% in its revenue in the year 2019 and reached the mark of $120.1 billion. The games on mobile, PCs and gaming consoles collaboratively contributed to the growth of the gaming industry across the globe. People got attracted to the free to play games on mobile platforms and the demand for gaming video content, e-sports, and virtual reality was on the rise.
The free to play mobile phone games earned a total of $64.4 billion in the year 2019 and the PC free games collected a net total of $29.6 billion. And the contribution of gaming consoles stood at $15.4 billion. The revenue of free-to-play games showed a hike whereas it dipped on consoles and PC. On the other hand, premiums games failed to achieve the required growth and a decline of 5% in their revenue was noticed.
Various games such as FIFA 19, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and GTA 5 were seen on the top spots. Out of the total revenue of $120.1 billion, the digital games market bagged $108.4 billion and the rest of the revenue was earned by Youtube and Twitch’s gaming videos and streams.
