Michael K. Obeng is a Ghanian American plastic surgeon who is also known as a television personality, philanthropist, scientist, and a global health expert. In addition to serving ordinary people, the clinic sees patients from all walks of life, including royalty and celebrities. He has worked on sculpting Kim Kardashian’s facial features and structure changes throughout her career.
Born in Ghana in 1973, life was never easy for him. During his humble beginnings in Ghana, he saw numerous diseases, illnesses and deformities that were attributed by the locals to supernatural forces. De, Obeng saw the premature death of his mother and grandmother due to decubitus ulcers which led him to pursue his career as a physician and a plastic surgeon.
At 20, he left for the U,S. with only $200 in his pocket and he was admitted to Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. There he gained a specialization in cosmetic surgery and he slowly started making a name for performing complex reconstructive surgery, hand, and neuromuscular surgery.
In the year 2018, Obeng made the news for successfully performing forehead reduction surgery. And in the year 2019, he again made headlines for performing rib removal surgery on Justin Jedlica (“the human Ken Doll”). The plastic surgeon is known for the first forearm reattachment in Ohio.
Due to his exceptional surgical skills, many news outlets such as ABC, MSNBC, and KTLA have featured him. Practicing in Beverly Hills, California, he also serves as the president of Global Health Solutions. Apart from serving as a plastic surgeon, Michael Obeng is also involved in philanthropic activity through his non-profit organization R.E.S.T.O.R.E.
Dr. Obeng’s organization helps to provide free reconstructive surgeries to many patients in impoverished nations with deformities from birth, accidents, and diseases. To date, more than 500 surgeries have been successfully performed at R.E.S.T.O.R.E. Dr. Obeng received the NAACP Humanitarian Award for his contribution to the world through R.E.S.T.O.R.E worldwide.
Despite his considerable success, Dr. Obeng has never forgotten his roots. In addition to R.E.S.T.O.R.E., he is developing international health assistance programs through his other organization, Global Health Solutions, through which he seeks to narrow the gap between the excessive morbidity found in 3rd world countries and healthy living.
Dr. Obeng is currently the only black Plastic Surgeon in Beverly Hills, but hopes to be able to inspire other persons of color to join him, both professionally, and as humanitarians.
